phule
http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html "While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 andSQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presentssymptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images thatare totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, uponconfirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, serviceyour camera free of charge." This is pure speculation on my part, but with this announcement and theexpansion of the Canon Service Advisory to include a number of additionalcameras, it would appear that Sony's bad batch of CCDs extended a lot furtherthan was initially thought. CharlesBecker-Toronto
thanks for the info Rob; good to know. My 'backup' is a 5400 and it's a terrific point and shoot. regards, cb ;-)
dave_reichert1
Thank you Rob! My four-year old CP 4500 has been suffering from a large number of hot pixels. I made an inquiry online at Nikon's site regarding repair, several months ago, but there was no reply. The link you provided allowed me to send the camera in for repair, and today I received confirmation that they're going to fix it at no charge. I'm shooting with a DSLR now, but I'm very glad to be getting the old 4500 back in shape. It'll be a great backup camera.
