Seeking a good commercial lab in the Detroit, Michigan area

Hello all!

 

This is my first post to this community. I was led here after a Google

search on "Meteor Photo" took me to a discussion on local Detroit area labs

that occurred back in 2000.

 

I would like to pose this question as well, and, seeing as it has been 6

years, perhaps someone would be willing to answer?

 

I have been sort of "out of it" in terms of photography for about 5 years

now. I used to use Meteor Photo, but they weren't everything I was hoping for

in a lab....I think they are still around, but not sure.

 

I am seeking a lab (or labs) near to the Detroit area that will print color, B

& W and digital prints for me in a professional manner. Can anyone offer any

suggestions?

 

In the posting from 2000, there were several suggestions that sounded great:

 

Detroit Imaging Group and Tri-Color to name 2

 

does anyone know if these are still around?

 

I appreciate any help that anyone can offer!

What kind of film?

 

I shoot medium-format, and I've had decent results from Adray's Camera in Dearborn. Also from Master Photofinishing on Telegraph in Dearborn, near Ford Rd.

 

I rarely have stuff processed at either place though, as I live in Ohio (my g/f lives in Dearborn) and usually just soup my own b/w negs and then scan them, and have the best ones printed. But in Ohio, Toledo area, check out Castle Photo in Maumee. They also do slides. Farther south, in Bowling Green, Ohio; try Studio 157 - it's on the main north-south road through town.

Tri Color is still around, on 14 mile road near Coolidge, I believe. Same for Meteor Photo. I have used neither. Also, Woodward Camera in Birmingham still does 2 hour slide film developing. Plus, they print color 35 and Med format. Not sure about BW. I have used them for slides, they did a great job. However, for color neg (35mm) and digital prints, I recommend Costco on 13 mile near John R. Great results, and great prices. They print up to 12x18.

I used to use Foto1 in Ann Arbor, 4 years ago when I lived in MI. They were pretty good for

consumer and commercial printing when I started going there in the 1990s, but then they

really started to suck (at least on the consumer end) in the early 2000s, in my opinion.

They've moved and changed since I left the area, so maybe they've gotten better again.
