This seems to have taken a while to get going this week. Last weekend and early this week we were getting some much needed R&R at Jembisa Lodge in the Waterberg mountains about 200km north of Pretoria.
I started out on some water lilies in the Palala River - leaning over what was later described as (full of crocodiles)

Farmer's Markets seem to be growing. A good sign that more people want fresher, local goods.
Montreal has at least 4 large markets with fresh goods and here is a small sampling of the products from Marche Jean Talon.

#1 Cheese anyone

The trip to Charleston and Savannah yielded a few shots that I can use for the POTW (since most of other shooting lately has been with the Nikon at the San Diego Zoo).

Here's a little alley off of a little street in Charleston, SC. K-5, DA40, 1/8 sec. at f/3.5, ISO 800, handheld, cropped a bit.

When we go someplace new we like to just walk around and get a feel for the town. Here's one of Heather and I in Charleston, shot from the hip (or is it the abdomen? - and I'll admit this was my second shot - the first one was a bit off). K-5, DA40, 1/40 sec. at f/5.6, ISO 160. Cropped.

One more, taken a couple of minutes before the one above. K-5, DA40, 1/40 sec. at f/5.6, ISO 160. Cropped.

I really like the K-5 with the DA Limiteds for travel. The 15, 21, 40 and 70 (and sometimes an FA50) all fit nicely with the camera in a Domke F5-XB, which can then slide into a nondescript North Face daypack when needed. With those small lenses hardly anyone even notices the camera in your hand.

(Please excuse my momentary thread hijack.)

Frank- you've piqued my interest with that Domke bag. I've just looked it up at B&H, their photos show a 3-pocket arrangement. I've got all those same lenses. How are you stashing them all in the bag along with the K-5? (One lens on the body...) Extra dividers? Stacking? What's the orientation of the camera in the bag? I use a Tamrac Aero 65 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=tamrac+3365&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma to stack my 4 DA Limited lenses (piece of folded cloth between them when stacked, the stock velco divider creating two vertical sections) but that's all it will hold, the body stays out. Maybe this Domke is my answer for hauling my little primes and the K-5? Thanks!

(Back to regularly scheduled programming.)

A little late to the party, just back from France.

It's always great to see everyone's shots, but I always envy Robert's. It's been a couple of years since I was out chasing orchids seriously, looks like I need to tag along with Robert sometime.
France was fun. I won't post anymore castle/museum/church shots for everyone here. Natural history is my bag. My big challenge on the trip is when I had a catastrophic event with my Tamron 70-300 LD macro. I was taking off the hood and I popped something inside the lens. I know had an oversized paperweight for a lens. I borrowed my dad's Pentax 55-200 (yes, I'm a second generation Pentaxer).

My grail image was to get a decent image of a Hoopie, but the lens being so short was an issue. I got a couple but not great. Next time maybe..

Anyway a few images
