POTW 4/14/13

<p>Going through some recent work and family stresses, I bought a whole bunch of photo gear. :-) Weather has been so lousy here, it has been hard to get out much to test the new stuff. These shots are from a new-to-me *ist D, and a Tamron 17-50.</p><div></div>

<p>Finally we have a few flowers in sunny spots:</p><div></div>

<p>I processed these using the "Reversal Film" setting in the Pentax Utility. Love the colors from the old CCD sensors.</p><div></div>

<p>One day last week I needed to take my wife to an appointment a couple of hours away. It's also close to some nice southwestern desert so I went for a hike to pass the time. It's snowed a little but was still pretty nice. I hope to do some mountain biking there soon. <br>

Finally, today was closing day at our local ski hill, Monarch. They had 13" of new snow and it was very wintery and great skiing!<br>

<em><strong>My Ride</strong></em></p>

<p>PJ you reminded me of two things.<br>

One is I'd sure like a reliable sled for backcountry ski access. Yours looks sweet and I probably wouldn't want to leave it at trailheads like I would with the caliber of ride I'm thinking of. I'd want an uglier one. One of these years...<br>

The other is I needed to fix the WB in my ski photo of my son. So here's the corrected one. <br>

<p>I was not able to log in until this morning, don't know what was going on, maybe that delayed some of the other responses. Spring is well along here along the Columbia River, lilacs are already in bloom. Love those photos of the spring wild flowers!</p>

<p>I took a drive into southeast Washington to the Palouse Falls, near where the Palouse enters the Snake River northeast of Walla Walla. I wanted to get there while there was water in the river, and found quite a bit, it was a good show. Guy there told me that two people had gone over the falls in their kayaks, was supposed to be a record height. Pretty impressive.</p>

<p>A shot of one of the ground hogs enjoying the spring weather. This taken with a Sigma APO 170-500 that I picked up used in a shop in Portland.</p><div></div>

<p>Howard, thanks! Nice collection of cute redheads!<br />Nick, that tree with the vine "hugging" it is a n interesting shot. Unconventional composition with so much centering but it works. <br />John, I also really like that first shot. Wow! I would love to see some crazy kayakers hucking themselves off it!<br /><br /><br>

I'm back to skiing this weekend. Still cold, still snowing. It's dry here in town but climbing a little higher it's still very much a winter wonderland. So for those tired of all my winter and ski pics, I apologize in advance for next week's photos! :)</p>
