Slow start this week! Hopefully it will pick up a little.
I went for a nice ride on Friday that I'm now calling my moon ride. Throughout the afternoon the moon kept reminding me of it's presence. It was very bright and just kept catching my eye on this nice clear day.
So I decided to take a self portrait with me riding and the moon. I would have liked to have the moon closer to me but with no tripod the boulder I used forced me into this composition. It took a couple of tries to get the timing right but I was happy with the outcome.
<a title="IMGP4004 by MattB.net, on Flickr" href=" IMGP4004 src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8064/8212120641_5590b769d9_z.jpg" alt="IMGP4004" width="640" height="424" />
.
A little while later I remembered this tree I have photographed before. It's a very old tree growing from a rock and I've kept it in the back of mind as a great frame for the moon. It was a mile or so away from my location so I started to head over there to see if the composition would line up.
Along the way I passed this big outcropping and with some careful positioning I caught the moon in this gap.
<a title="IMGP4021 by MattB.net, on Flickr" href=" IMGP4021 src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8198/8213210234_5ccb75a495_c.jpg" alt="IMGP4021" width="530" height="800" />
.
Then I continued on to the tree I had in mind. After waiting for the moon the rise a little more I managed to frame it by standing on a boulder and holding the camera over my head and composing this using Live View.
<a title="IMGP4044 by MattB.net, on Flickr" href=" IMGP4044 src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8212121703_84ab2acebf_c.jpg" alt="IMGP4044" width="530" height="800" />
.
Finally on my way home I witnessed a great sunset. I raced to catch it's peak at this little pond next to the road. As luck would have it my timing worked out there too, although the moon wasn't in the shot I decided to keep it anyway.
<a title="IMGP4081 by MattB.net, on Flickr" href=" IMGP4081 src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8198/8213211036_ff953968ee_z.jpg" alt="IMGP4081" width="640" height="424" />
.
These were all shot with the K-5 and DA40 except the sunset which I switched to the DA15 for.

I've had a lull in shooting lately: we're in-between Clara's sports seasons and birds have been scarce (plus it's getting too cold for extended bird outings) so I've been rummaging through old shots and processing (or re-processing) a few. Given the recent discussion, I've been keeping my eye out for shots with the A* 135/1.8 and found a few:

Nice work, everyone! Howard, the background between the columns on your first really make the shot.

On a family trip to San Diego, I took just the DA 18-135 and FA43. The zoom got most of the use, and acquitted itself very well. Here are a few from the zoo:

00b45U-505919984.JPG.0caba7296abfd4c669eb246f3d691ade.JPG

I have been to the SD zoo a few times, but never waited in the line to see the pandas before. It was quiet the day we were there, and we got right in.

I was only shooting the ducks here, but love the pattern of light on the water:

00b45W-505920084.JPG.5ba3780b8df8f08b83dfb38a68b01529.JPG

away at work so nothing new, but all this talk of beer made me want to jump in, have been adding creature comforts to my homemade sailing dinghy to make it a better fishing/beer drinking/farting around boat, and since a wooden boat can't have plastic beer holders came up with my own made out of basket weaving strips, scrap wood and epoxy.(followed by several beers worth of sanding)

00b4TN-506163584.jpg.2cd0f0a50be9b7c3648f3fcce3934e9d.jpg
