mc2imaging
I'm going to be driving all day on Sunday. I am in Lima, OH tonight, and I will be at work in Wichita, KS at 6:00 am Monday morning. I won't have any other chance to post so I figured I'd get this rolling with a pic from the land of the Yoopers. This image is probably a bit overprocessed, but it was pretty gray up in the UP. This is Crisp Point, just a bit west of Whitefish Point...

mcmanamey
Well, *I* think it's hardly fair of matt to start posting vacation pics when I haven't even gotten to see any from the batch he's posting from (my silly hard drive filled up!! Geez, I only had 8800 pics, what's the problem???) BUT, the ones I did get to go through very quickly here, here's a couple. Also from the UP, coincidentally. Apparently, there wasn't much to see until we got on the North side of the Big Mac. Both of these happen to come from the Upper Tahquomenon Falls, and no i do not happen to care if I spelled that right at this moment. I'll care in the soon-to-appear thread "We survived a week in the car w/ 6 of us!!"

mcmanamey
I HIGHLY recommend a stop at the Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub. We were afraid it'd be the usual "where else you gonna eat?" kind of place w/ the accompanying high prices, but it was really great! I am not a beer kinda person (I'm all about the froo-froo stuff), but I really really really liked the Porcupine Pale Ale. That's it in the front glass. The other 2 are the Lumberjack Lager, which is not my kinda beer.

davidmantilla
Here are some photos from Monday's hike to the Yellow Mountains (the first photo is a repost from an earlier thread, the other two are "fresh"). All photos shot with Pentax k10d and kit lens 18-55mm. Some postprocessing (tone curves) done to get rid of the fog/haze and bring out the blue in the sky.
Gallery: http://davidmantilla.smugmug.com/share/vpR0Rg77bcMtM

miserere_mei
Geez, you guys are not messing around, are you!? I was about to go to bed, and now I'm forced to post some pics. It's tough to be me...

This one is from 2 weeks ago, but I didn't have time to post it then, so I reckon it shouldn't count towards this week's total. I'm not going to wait for a reply to that. It's got no title, it's simply a continuation of my fascinated by random leaves even though I swear I'm not a plant or flower person series. I have to work on the series title. Duochrome treatment, not real colour, and I couldn't quite nail the focus hand-holding the Sigma 70-300mm in the macro range in the wind. Through a window. Balancing on one leg on a table. Actually, it didn't turn out that bad now that I think about it...

Leaves can be cool too...if you survive the macro shooting part

OK, now onto the ones from this week. First off, I promised Hin I'd post one for him, and this is it. I'm sure he'll recognise it. Well, I hope everyone does! :-D

<a href=" title="Piercing the Clouds by Miserere, on Flickr">
Piercing the Clouds

Next up, a view of George Segal's monument, The Holocaust, located in Lincoln Park, San Francisco. It has to be seen to be understood; I was sincerely moved by it. Hopefully I can transmit some of my feeling through these photographs. There is <a href=" different view on my Flickr page; please let me know what you think.

The Holocaust

Let's lighten the mood a little with the third one for this week. It goes out to Godfrey, wherever he may be.

Green Engine
miserere_mei
Matt, definitely in B&W, although white skies suck. Just set the contrast to 111 and go wild. Maria, I can see you are mastering the Hinmanian style of picture taking. Nice deer! David, if I weren't so jealous of your trip, I might tell you that your second shot has a beautiful dreamy quality to it that is putting me to sleep peacefully. But I *am* jealous, so I won't. jgredline
Here are some images I shot with my K1OOO and BW400CN Film..It seems to have a sharper look compared to Tri X but Tri X has a more vintage look about it... I also need to remember to stop down 1/2 stop...I am still learning, but having tons of fun. :) Here is a hamster cage that my shop foreman built. It took him about a year to build it. garry_young1
Wow - early start this week! I have started taking pics more regularly, so I won't have to bore anyone with shots of my attractive colleagues! Here is a macro of a very old small ball of play dough that my son found dried up with crystalline changes.

garry_young1
I have also been trying my hand at street shooting. Where is Godfrey? As Mis has done, I would like to dedicate this one to the master. It is cropped down to square to isolate the subject against the background. There seems to be a bit of purple fringing that I didn't notice in pp, but anyway.
<a href=" title="Billboard by Garry Young, on Flickr">
I tried black and white, but I think I like the blue of the background. garry_young1
Matt, I think b&w works better, but it may benefit from a border because of the pale sky. Maria, you're making me thirsty! I have been on meds for a week, and still have another few days to go, so no beer for a long time! I am so close to seeing how the meds mix with something on tap! David - stunning! I enjoyed your thread on the trip - post some more! Mis - your shots are all stunning, but the Green Engine is my favorite. Javier, nice black and whites. Roger, nice cars, but better pics! dorus
Well, sunday has only just begun and everyone is up and running !
Matthew: your trunk has to compete (too much) with the tower, on its own it would be veru much sufficient.
Miserere: your leaf pic is just perfect, and then some....
And Garry, you got a very good street-picture there , also in technical sense.
Some different things I did, this week:

In the dressing room at the local sportshall. (I cloned the naked girls away, ofcourse ;))

Toying with the same image, the original on the left was too depressingナ.

And one to show that I can make normal pictures too ;) , a macro in this case.

markus maurer
For some quick snaps I left the external flash in the pocket and used the Pentax kit lens and the integrated flash here for the childs portait. This little flash is quite usefull for fills and if you dont mnid frontal flat light even for more as you can see in the second birds portrait. A fun week indeed and again way too many photos to choose only 3 favorites for me :-) greetings to all the Pentaxians, Markus

markus maurer
I quickly changed my mind to show you a sample of yesterdays action of drummer "Mani" from the cult band www.guru-guru.com instead of some technical Tamron 17mm wide shots. I made quite a few photos for the band and the old manual Osram hammerhead flash cooperated nicely with the K10D.

garry_young1
O Shiva, your digital manipulations are stunning as usual, and the macro is great. One needs to view the images without the pnet compression to see their real beauty though. Markus, that bird looks edgy! Not sure I would like him that close to my lens! shots worth sharing
Matt: even I say B&W Maria: deer & beer, eh? I'm glad you hunt with a camera. Mis: "couldn't quite nail the focus hand-holding the Sigma 70-300mm in the macro range in the wind. Through a window. Balancing on one leg on a table." You left out, "squinting at the view-finder through a mirror held by an inebriated chimpanzee in a typhoon-tossed row-boat." Javier: Did you get all the hamsters out of that engine you shipped to Spain? Garry: you're right about keeping your street shot color--and not just because of the blue: the tonal merge (to coin a phrase) is really great. O Shiva: Don't you just hate it when you get a really good photo only to find it's got naked ladies all over it? I do like that one, btw. Here's my solution to the problem of shooting cute little birds in that tree out back.

shots worth sharing
Here's one from last Sunday after dropping my daughter off at camp. There's a simple reason I didn't use the tripod and TC: to put it gently, I'M AN IDIOT! I've consoled myself by saying that it has a "nice water-color-y feel." I do like the fact that it's about the scene, not just the bird, but sharper would have been better.

hagar
Wow.. and I thought I'd have a quick peek.
Matthew, the b&w is better.. and I do think it needs a border of some sort unless you darken the sky a bit.
Maria, that pale ale looks good!
David, your shots from the trip are awesome. I like all three, and even tho I am not big on people photos, I do like the 3rd one quite a lot.
Mis, you are too funny at times! That leaf is actually quite awesome, and so is the green car. In future, if you are going to claim strenous shooting conditions, I think we would like to see proof! lol.
Javier, your b&w phtoos are getting to be superb. And don't listen to Dave.. they need the hamsters in the engine for the power boost!
Roger, cool cars.. that Austin minor is a gem. I drove around quite a bit in one of those in my youth :-)
Garry, your red ball looks like a mushroom :-) Your street photo is really good. And if you hadn't mentioned the PA, nobody would have really noticed.. Blue is good, I agree.
O Shiva, I really like your first shot.. personally I would never do anything drastic like clone away naked ladies.. And what is this posting a 'normal' photo business ? Now we are all confused!
Markus, Blue eyes is indeed a handsome specimen.. lucky to be able to get so close. The drummer came out really well..
Dave, I would have thought you would not intrude on some poor vulture doing it's yoga exercises.. Good catch tho..
Doug, that flower came out really well..
I didn't do anything interesting photo-wise this week. Attended a huge birthday party at Morton's and other than photos of random people which are quite boring, I thought I'd post a couple. One is from Taiwan, from earlier this year which I am getting around to pp finally. And I thought I would get some food on the table to go with Maria's beer :-)

garry_young1
Dave, low tide is great. I guess you may want it sharper blown up, but it looks great at this size. Doug, nice flower. Only one complaint, it's called Flower 1. So where are the others? Haig, really like the bridge shot - and no, that is not a pun concerning the bridge tournament you were playing in at the time that you took the shot!
