arthur_ozolins
Hi guys! Do you know where UK photo community "hang out" on the internet? I am now living in Latvia ( Baltic states ) and i have a plan after 2 years when i will finish my studies at univeristy to go to UK and study there. Before that i would like to know are there any popular photography portals in Manchester, London?
pjmeade
It would be PN or flickr.
The Royal Photographic Society has a web site and forum : -
www.rps.org
The British Journal of photography has a web site and forum, but also needs a subscription.
colin carron
Well, here's a list of UK photo-sharing sites.
http://uk.photowebs.net/photo_sharing_uk/1.htm
But I don't know if the UK photo community 'hangs out' anywhere on the internet.

One of the things I like about photonet (and other photosharing sites) is being part of an international community. ff you are on PN much you will start to recognise the UK residents. I think I would find a stroger UK focus a bit parochial.
david_henderson
If you want something thats essentially "Local" , thats what camera clubs or photographic societies do, and there will be lots round London and Manchester. These are the closest to a "community" you'll get, and I have little doubt that some members of these discuss things between themselves online as well as attending meetings. Some people belong to more than one.

On the internet, just about everything big enough to be interesting and worthwhile is international and fairly generalist. There are a lot of UK photographers on here, though you might not always identify that from their posts. However, there is nowhere specific on Photo.net for national groups to hang out together, which doesn't sadden me one bit.
APUG (analogue photographers user group) tends to have national or regional groups that whilst loose, arrange a couple of meetings a year. But as the name implies its pretty specialist and its possibly more important to be on message there than here.
