chris_kuettner
Any recommendations on a software package that displays thumbs, allows basic manipulations, batch functions, and otherwise acting as a front-end for photoshop??? Please don't recommend ACDSee....I've used that program for awhile, and now that I'm processing >2000 images per month, I find it very clunky and slow. I know there are several indexing programs aimed at the professional photographer, just havn't found any specifics yet. Any help would be appreciated. Tnx, Chris
majid
IMatch is the best such program on Windows (n Mac version, unfortunately). Its category system is in itself a good reason to prefer it to the competition (for professional level tools, mostly Extensis Portfolio and Canto Cumulus). ptucci
I like PolyView from PolyBytes.com. Shareware, but fast because it doesn't have too many bells & whistles.
sean de merchant httpw
Try the file browser in Photoshop CS. It has the best performing browser I have run into when dealing with large numbers of image and when dealing with large images. Unless you are looking for indexing features, that is the way to go. If you want indexing features, then I recommend MySQL/PostgresSQL, PHP, and Apache with a web browser for your front end if you have any programming skills. This will give you a database for you images that actually meets your needs rather than some random attempt at creating an imaging database by someone who apparently does not have one and did not consult anyone with one. gpdno
iView Media Pro. Worth the money. I tried Canto Cumulus but was very disapointed.

christopher_auman__archivi
Has anyone tried Picasa from Google? I just stumbled over this today. I am a Google lover and tend to think that anything they do is great. As I said though I know nothing about it and would like some opinions. Maybe we could give it a spin and open a separate thread to discuss the results. http://www.picasa.com/
