aplumpton
An unusually concise and important tribute to the musician-humanist who was both a part and ahead of his times, and of uncommon courage. Thanks to C. Watson for posting.

The mention of Bruce Davidson and other photographers of Seeger (the self-educated photographer Dany Lyon and David Gahr) and other folk musicians, and the links to their work is a plus. These guys had great eyes for and perceptions of events of the time, whether including the famous or just everyman and everywoman.

No auto exposure, no auto focus, no zoom lenses, no Photoshop to the rescue, and they also had to accept the sometimes limitations of grainy b&w or color film and no 12,500 ISO.

Yet despite all these limitations of that time, the message of the photos and their energy comes through. Good lessons for photographers and especially street photographers of today, who have the comparative ease of application of fully auto cameras and smart phones.
Norma Desmond
Thanks for the link!

Something else well worth watching: Pete Seeger: The Power of Song.
We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
