andrew_turner
For what reason, if any, should I consider posting anything else? Seems like a colossal waste, but maybe I'm missing something here.
rich815
Well, you're kind of "missing something".
The view count does not mean that 195 people single-handedly clicked on your image page itself and speciafically took a look at your image. It means that your image, and it's thumbnail, showed up 195 times no matter where it was viewed on the photo.net site. This includes pages such as the "Random Recent Uploaded Photos" page: http://www.photo.net/gallery/ and the "Most Recent Uploaded Photos" page: http://www.photo.net/gallery/?recent=most
So you see every time any one requests and views those pages (and perhaps some others too) your image and all those others get a "view". david_henderson
Notwithstanding the points Richard makes , the picture has very large areas with no shadow detail; a white sky; a crop that I for one can't see the logic for, and a dog taking a shit in the gutter. I can't tell you I'm surprised that people have preferred to spend their time on other images. Sorry.

edan_lev_ari
It's poorly exposed but the premise is kind of neat. People in a fancy cafe in europe watching a dog take a shit. I am sure some deconstructionist would get a kick out of it.
chip l.
I too wonder about the ratings. Some of us post to get feedback on our technique. I am surprised at how quickly some get instant feed back while others seem to jsut sit there. Any hints as to how to get more feedback? Thanks Chip
chris_hawkins
Chip: Post pictures that are interesting.
chris_hawkins
You ask for critique and then you get some and you say" Thanks guys (nt)." If you only want positive feedback, you have some the wrong place. This might be more in line with what you want http://www.the28thfloor.com/imagemaker_forum/
jim_hayes1
Lets talk reality here. I have posted images here and other sites and I stopped posting here just because I cannot get a review. I don't care if the image is boring it deserves to be looked at if this site purports itself to be a learning location. I would much rather go somwhere where people tell me what is wrong with my images so I can learn and do better rather that give me a self important "you should post more interesting images" I agree with Andrew, as configured this site is a colossal waste. Crtic circles have the potential to be inbred praise circles which does not help anyone. Try PhotoSig's idea od Last Chance Critics. It works. mottershead
Jim, I guess we have a different philosophy on this site: we don't hand out "points" to pay people for commenting and rating photos that they would not otherwise rate or comment upon. The people who get reviews on this site are the people who participate. Chris' remark above that you should post more interesting photos applies if you don't plan on giving any ratings or making any comments yourself. If your photos are great, you don't have to put any effort into the site in order to get reviews; your photos will get ratings and reviews anyway. Everybody else has to put something into the site in order to get something out. That means rating and commenting other people's photos. I notice you haven't. Thousands of people get comments and reviews on this site, and they are not all "top" photographers. They do it by participating. If you don't have any comments or reviews after participating in the site -- they you might have a right to complain. But if you would prefer to sit on your rear while other people give you free reviews because they are playing some other site's little point system, then by all means use the other sites.
