clark_roberts
Hi all, I alway's like using Metz flashes but was said to hear they stop making them, is that true? Thanks
q.g._de_bakker
Yes. Metz was split into two companies, one (owned by a chinese company) makes or made consumer electronics (TVs). The other, Metz Mecatech, was supposed to continue the flash line, but is not very visible, and last i heard they were contemplating making e-scooters.
Dieter Schaefer
Per this: Metz mecatech GmbH, Zirndorf, Germany the company has been liquidated Nov 4, 2020. Way back in the eighties, I owned Metz flashguns and liked them a lot. Over time, the plethora of adapters necessary to keep things working became too much and I switched to Nikon flashes - which are now lingering in my bag and hardly ever used. When I purchased the Sony A7, there was a smoking deal on one of its flash guns so I bought. Never used, I sold it later making a bit of a profit on it. SCL
I continue using my old Metz 45CL-4 when I need a good flash. Like the Eveready bunny, it just keeps on going.:D
rodeo_joe1
Maybe the sadness should be tempered by remembering how lightweight and plasticky their later offerings became. Gone was the tank-like build quality, and the price-performance ratio had become totally un-competitive.
