Nikon Wednesday 2012: #4

  1. Important: please keep your image under 700 pixels on the longest side for in-line viewing, and please keep the FILE SIZE UNDER 300kb. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site (at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc).

Are you new to this thread? The general guidelines for these Wednesday threads are right here: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00W7km. Remember: only one image each week!
A happy Nikon Wednesday to you all. We took the dogs out for a walk in the lifting morning fog today, and it was great to see the sun starting to show after a dank couple of days. Back into the comfort of the house, they found their favorite sun-spot on the carpet, and drowsed as only content dogs can. Here's our German Shorthair, and our Emergency Backup German Shorthair (I'm not saying which is which, because there would be big trouble).

Anything nice and peaceful to depict with your Nikon gear? Share a photo!

I shot this a while back (I hope I haven't posted it already), but I just found out this guy is retiring, after 40 years on the job.

  17. Hello, all. Haven't participated for a long time, and wanted to jump back in. Took this at a local mission garden. Specs under image show an ISO of 1600 because I forgot to reset it after coming out of the dark interior. I hate when I do that!

  25. Good morning to all and such Great shots this morning. They are such an inspiration to me. I can't wait to wake up on Wednesday morning just to be enlightened.
My shot was taken yesterday after all our beautiful snow melted in the 56 degree warmth. Felt like Spring. A couple of old outbuildings on some property in Holmes county Ohio I call "The Test of Time".

  27. Greetings from the depths of northern Ontario.
We think we have discovered a new species.....
    The Shirt Shark
It is land dwelling and appears to be nocturnal.
We know little about it other than that it has very sharp teeth and a bite radius about the same as that of a Corgi. They may travel in pairs.

  53. Hello fellow Nikon friends,
Here's a serene scene of the Hillsboro Inlet (FL) lighthouse I call "Guiding Lights". It was a very dark night and needed a 30 second exposure, which is cool for capturing planes that look like shooting stars.
Great contributions today. Like the Northern Lights, which should be plentiful this week thanks to Mr Sun.

  54. I'v been shooting 10 or 15 of these shots at weddings when posible, people really like them when I show them in my portfolio.

  55. We held a photowalking activity at The Leonardo in downtown Salt Lake City. The Leonardo is a science and art museem and has a lot of interesting shapes and textures to photograph. My congtribution was of some art work hanging above the DNA exhibit on the second floor. I did remove hanging wires and some light fixtures in the background to give the hoops a feeling of being suspended in the air.

My favorite three this week are all portraits:

  82. I think Robert Capa said something like "if your pictures are 't good, you're not close enough". So practicing what he preached here is this pic with a D700 and a 17-35, 2.8 Also shout out to Bogdon, love the color in that. Every one above, there are so many nice pics here, thanx.[IMG]

  83. Doug its an AFS ED says its a DII non VR. I bought it used. Its the last version before VR.

  84. David Janson - nice close up. Look like brand new strings, on a very clean, but not brand new guitar. No such thing as a Taylor that does not sound good.

  85. Rick Dohme -
Thanks Rick. I have the ED AF version and I have noticed chromatic aberrations especially when using teleconverters. The problem is most evident with strongly backlit or high contrast images. I assumed the problem with my lens was that it was designed and built for film cameras and I am using it on digital bodies. Any thoughts?
    Doug

  86. I love shooting children and have been doing so over 40 years using various Nikon models. I'm currently on a Nikon7000. My very first submission is of my grandson, a rabid University of Alabama football team which recently won the national BCS championship. His passion is caught in this photo.

  87. Welcome, Bob!

  88. Wow Doug I wish I was smart enough to answer that. I also have a 30 year old 300 2.8 Ed manual that weighs a ton. Still takes great pics though.

  89. I entered a photo this week with too few pixtels. I would like to replace the entry with the attached which is the same as the one entered earlier. The information for the photo was attached to my first entry.

  90. This won't happen again and I'm sorry for the mistakes. I do understand the 700 pixel limit and want you to replace my original entry with this photo
