anthony_bez
I have a desire to scan my film negatives, so had a look for a used film scanner.

I want good results and compatibility with Windows XP, but do not want to spend more than necessary.
I've seen a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED and wondered if it would suit my needs. Or should I be looking for another model?

Cheers
blumesan
I have been using a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED for the past 5 years with excellent results. Scans take a bit of time, especially at high resolution (recommended). As I am sure you know, this scanner is only siutable for 35mm film.
tonysvision
I used the Coolscan 4000 for a couple of years, then went to the 5000, which completes scans in about half to 2/3 the time of the 4000. Both produce good results. I assume the 4000 is used. It would be good to test it, as the optics can become dusty, leading to soft results.
