fred_c1
Cosina discontinued the Apo-Lanthar to pave way for this? I don't suppose it's priced lower than used Tele-Elmarits. http://www.digitalkamera.de/Meldung/Neue_Objektive_von_Zeiss_jetzt_auch_mit_EF_Bajonett/5111.aspx
fred_c1
Correction: only the silver 3.5/90 is discontinued. Black version still in production. Even more competition for the Zeiss.
miles_s.
"Cosina discontinued the Apo-Lanthar to pave way for this?" Doubtful. Zeiss and Cosina are partners but it is an instance of coopetition. BTW it is not clear from the article that Cosina is making the Tele-Tessar. fred_c1
So Cosina is keeping the faster and much cheaper Apo-Lanthar as a co-operation with Zeiss? I'm also willing to bet the full retail price of the Tele-Tessar that it's made by Cosina.
harvey_edelstein1
I'm sure it will be a great performer, but most 85mm lenses these days are F1.8 or faster. If this were a macro lens I could see the slow F-stop but considering rangefinder cameras have 1/125 sec. or slower speed x-sync using a flash indoors is not gonna be something I want to do all the time with an F4 on my camera. dan_nobile
My guess is that Zeiss intends to market this one along with the 35mm f2.8 and advertise it as a very compact "travelers outfit". I like that idea but would have prefered a 85mm f2.8 and not a f4.
miles_s.
"So Cosina is keeping the faster and much cheaper Apo-Lanthar as a co-operation with Zeiss?" No, it is offered as as competing product that differs in specification and price (compete) that uses shared parts or ancillary services (cooperation) such that together they offer the consumer choice. Besides it is really a matter of Zeiss offering a faster and slower lens to the pre-exiting Cosina Apo-Lanthar drawn from its catalog of designs.
