William Kahn
I've been looking at a device called "Lima" which allows data storage access locally without the need for a computer. Basically, it performs the same file storage function as the "cloud" but as a local device. This might be handy for photographers on the road who want to store photo files to a remote facility, but don't trust the "cloud". It's a simple device that connects between your Wi-Fi router and a hard drive, and can be accessed via Wi-Fi from anywhere. No computer needed. The drive would also be accessible by any of your local computers on the same network. It sounds slick, but there may be a problem. The first edition of Lima, which came out in 2016, was less than successful. In fact, the reviews on Amazon were downright rotten. The new edition, Lima Ultra, is supposed to be out in a couple of months. If you want to take a look, you can see it at: Lima – The first Cloud that respects your privacy My question is, has anyone had any experience with Lima? If so, was it worth it, or too good to be true? Thanks. (And, no, I don't work for these guys.)
Charles_Webster
Might not require a computer, but it connects to your router, so you need your network to run it. Doesn't sound like a solution for on the road. And it looks like vaporware at this time. "Join the waiting list" is the only Buy button.
Charles_Webster
And not a clue as to how much it costs.
