robert x
Hello there - so - who has thoughts on what the practical difference is bewteen Kodak E100G and their warm-balanced E100GX ? Is it a big jump ? Anyone's thoughts or personal experience would be really useful just now. If anyone has any links to examples of the actual difference that would be swell. stan_belyaev
I have used both, but have not noticed any difference.
ben_hutcherson
If anything, I find E100G a bit cool and GX closer to neutral. In practical terms, though, there's not much difference.
john_shriver
I find E100G has a tendency towards icy blue shadows outside. What's in the sun will be perfectly balanced. That's because the shadow areas are only lit by blue sky and other reflections. E100GX comes out much more like our brain sees the world, even though E100G is unquestionably the more "accurate" film of the two. Studio strobe, E100G no question. But I'm much happier with E100GX outdoors. Note that all the consumer Elite Chrome versions of these films have the warmer color balance.
ilkka_nissila
The G is very cool outdoors, very blue shade. Typical studio Ektachrome colors. The GX is more suitable for outdoor stuff and yields a fairly natural balance in a broad range of conditions.
edgar_njari
It seems that my brain is calibrated towards colder side, so what most people see as neutral I see as a bit warm. So I always felt E100G to be neutral and I see GX as warm.
robert x
Well I just bought 30 rolls of it all well in date and very cheap - under a third the price I get the GX for - so am hoping fervently that it will be okay. I do shoot mostly outdoors though. Nothing a little PS tweaking can't cure, I hope....... [holds breath and crosses fingers)
