Photographers and photo-based artists working in any genre are eligible to apply. Applicants are encouraged to submit a cohesive body of work.<br /> <br /> <strong>PRIZES:</strong> <br />

<ul>

<li>Selected applicants will be featured in an exhibition sponsored by the CCNY in the gallery at Calumet Photographic in New York City in December 2009.</li>

<li>Winners will also be featured on the CCNY website.</li>

<li>The first place selection will receive a $300.00 cash award. Sales will be encouraged. (A 30% commission applies to all sales.)</li>

</ul>

<strong>ENTRY:</strong> <br /> The competition is open to all U.S. residents 18 years or older who are Participating Members of CCNY. Resident members, staff, board members, artists-in-residence, and their families are not eligible. Only photographs or photo-based work will be considered <br /> <br /> <strong>FEE:</strong> <br /> There is no fee to apply. All applicants must be participating members of the CCNY. A one-year participating membership is $40.<br /> <br /> Participating member benefits:

<li>10% discount on classes, workshops, and book sales</li>

<li>portfolio review with CCNY staff (limit one review per year) </li>

Horenstein earned his BFA and MFA from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1971 and 1973 respectively. Horenstein's over 30 books include mono- graphs (<em>Animals, Close Relations, Honky Tonk, Humans, Creatures, Aquatics, Canine</em> , and<em> Racing Days</em> ) and some of the most widely used instructional texts in the field (<em>Black & White Photography, Beyond Basic Photography, Photography,</em> and<em> Color Photography</em> ). Photographs from his book <em>Honky Tonk: Portraits of Country Music 1972-1981</em> were exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in 2006 and The Museum of Rhode Island School of Design in 2007. His 2007/2008 solo show at the Harvard Museum of Natural History,<em> Looking at Animals</em> , is traveling internationally, as is <em>Honky Tonk</em> . His current photographs, <em>Show</em> , on the worlds of burlesque, fetish, drag, and sideshow, will be published this fall.
