Julio Fernandez
I am travelling in early July to Chapala, near Guadalajara, Mexico for a week on business, but plan to carry a camera since I probably will have about half a day free. I have been to Mexico before several times but never to the Guadalajara area. Can anybody recommend a good photo store there and/or a photo lab? (I may need to buy film or have some processed and I would like to check equipment prices) Is there some location I should not miss while in the area? john_brewton
Julio, I have been to Lake Chapala. The quaint little town of Ajijic, which I'll bet you can pronounce correctly, is an American enclave with many photo opportunities. The town overlooks the lake and on first view it appears you have been transported to the Mediterranean! They have a picturesque church, active market and art scene. Unfortunately you probably won't see any boats on the lake as it is contaminated with pesticides and any fish living in it are unsafe to eat! Anyway, have a great time and take lots of pics. alex_lofquist
Outside of Quadalajara, the suburb of Tlaquepaque is a classic picturesque old time Mexican town, with excellent ceramics. (The market outside Sedona, AZ is named after this place.) If you like Mariachi music, you couldn't be in a better location.

manuel_escobar1
In Guadalajara you can check out two equipment providers: Laboratorios Julio and Foto Regis both on Vallarta Av. half a block north (following the way of the traffic) from the crossing with Chapultepec Av. Regarding Labs, you can check Fotogrᦩca Navarro or C᭡ra 21, both on Av. Am鲩cas half a block from the crossing with Av. M鸩co. If you only have half a day try staying close to or in the city. Go down town for colonial buildings and other historic subjects, ride north on Av. Vallarta for more modern subjects. Tonalᠡnd Tlaquepaque can give you a lot of handicrafts and other folk art subjects. Hope I caught you before your trip.
