Sanford
Is there a resource guide that lets you zero in on a flower or plant's ID by characteristics?
ShunCheung
Leucospermum cordifolium - Wikipedia
Tony Parsons
According to Google search, it is a species of Protea (right click on image, then 'Search Google for Image'). This is not always helpful (for several images, the best it could come up with was 'Bird' !) - I too would be interested to know of any other resource to assist in this. Sanford
Thanks! How did you come up with that so fast? Does it have a more familiar shorter name? OK I see Protea will work.
Tony Parsons
Sorry - no idea of specific identity, but entering Protea in a search engine may point you to other sources of info. It's a method I use if I find any image about which I would like to know more.
ShunCheung
Thanks! How did you come up with that so fast? Does it have a more familiar shorter name? OK I see Protea will work. Sanford, not sure you are referring to me. First of all, I am by no means a flower/plant expert, far from that. However, I visit the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum once in a while. They specialize in Southern Hemisphere plants, and I have seen Leucospermum cordifolium there many times. That is a native of South Africa. Therefore, unless you have been that lately, I assume you may have captured your image from that arboretum also, since it is not far from you. Sanford
I was referring to you but someone jumped ahead, should have use quotes. This one City of Monterey landscaping. I have been to the UCSB Arboretum years ago.
ShunCheung
And I tend to capture images such as this one for my records when I am at the arboretum, so that I could pretend as if I knew what I was talking about.

JDMvW
With digital, the 'cost' of photographing labels, signs, and such-like IDs is minimal and I do the same thing and eventually save only a small jpg, e.g.,
