Five

started in this forum a month ago, when I asked if 10 people would

join me for a month in leaving five comments on the photos of other

people whenever we visited the site, in order to increase commenting

and dialogues about posted photographs. Since it started here, I

wanted to acknowledge the end of the month, and the end of the

original "honor code" commitment we made to each other.

I can only speak for myself. Its been a very enjoyable and

memorable pnet month for me, as many people from around the world

have participated (more than 120 people have made the commitment). I

have felt really encouraged to comment on photographs during the

month, as I have known that I am far from alone in thinking it is

important to do so. And I've "met" people and reviewed works that I

don't think I would have encountered otherwise, with great pleasure,

and received valuable insights from new people on my own postings.

This has gone beyond anything I had expected.

If its okay with Brian, I am going to keep the "Five" discussion

page in my portfolio. Anyone who is interested in the subject of

critiques generally, feel free to visit the page (link at the

beginning of this note) and to those who would like to join in the

spirit of the endeavor still, feel free to leave a note to add your

name to the list. Its a place anyone can visit to find like-minded

people.

My profuse thanks to those hearty and generous souls who joined in

Five. I hope it has been fun and of value for you. Its been an

honor to facilitate the page on your behalf -- to think, from around

the world we can come together and share our appreciation for

photography like this, it never ceases to boggle my mind.

Brian, thank you for allowing this somewhat unorthodox experiment to

proceed. I hope you have found it of some value as well.

Thanks also to David McCracken for encouraging us to consider the

limitations of the English language on an international site. While

that is hard to overcome because of each of our own limitations, it

has nonetheless led to some sensitivity about it and a great

rallying cry:

Ben, its been very rewarding to make a point of commenting and I have received extra comments on my work. Although I only "signed up" within the last few days.

So, your idea works and works well.

Congratulations on starting something very worth while.

Pete
