sheri_p
My brother-in-law was diving last weekend with his JVC DVX-4 in natural light (i.e. without a special strobe attachment). His video film shows a very dominant blue-green color in comparison to another diver who used what looked like an orange filter to produce a clearer result. What might this filter be (brand, color) and would you recommend its use (and under what conditions)? Will it reduce by much the amount of light reaching the video camera? bob_jarman
Sheri, I take underwater pictures, not video. So I am not sure of the exact name for the filter, but it will be red/orange toned, and there should be one offered by the company that made the housing. I have posted a link to an Ikelite webage where they have a picture of one. http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/videoone.html You should be aware however, that the red color correcting filter will help, but if you are in anything but very clear and very bright water, it will not bring out the colors you are looking for. It does cause a reduction in the light as well, but you will have to check with your housing mfg. to find out how much. The deeper you get the more your lose the red, orange yellow spectrum. It just can't get through the water, at least not much past 30 feet. The only way I am aware of to get the colors you probably are looking for is to add a video light to the housing. Good luck! peza
http://www.schneideroptics.com/filters/list/18/correct.html
I suggest to try CC-20M (Magenta) or CC-20R (Red). Anyway - depend how deep you are, so if you're interesting in this kind of photography, probably you'll need whole line CC 05M-40M. BTW - very high quality filters !
I like them.

Regards
damon_harrell
The best color correction filters for underwater video are made my a company called UR/Pro. Just about every housing manufacturer uses their standard Blue/Green water filter. You can check them out at http://peg2.ntsource.com/urpro/ . These are absolutely necessary for good quality underwater video. Good Luck!
