ni_gentry
Does anyone use a fax to send / receive wedding contracts, prices, or materials from vendors, etc. ?<p>Lately, I've had to fax a couple things out and had to use the fax machine at my evil day job.<p>Is there cheap (or free) electronic fax software that can run on your computer (Mac) ? vlad khavin
Ni, you could set up an account at eFax.com or another such provider, and that would let you send faxes much like you send email. Hope that helps.

devoted
I use eFax, as I tend to travel quite a bit. It works rather well!
peter_mounier
Do you have OSX 10.4 (Tiger)? The newer PPC machines have faxing built in but don't have a built in modem, so you'll need to get one. I don't know about the MacPro machines. Open the document you want to fax. Click on "print", then click on the drop down menu for PDF. Then click on Fax PDF and fill in the fields. ni_gentry
Peter - that's cool, I didn't know that was available. I believe my Airport Extreme base station has a modem, so I'll have to give that a try. Do you know if there's a way to receive faxes that's also built-into OSX ? Thanks
peter_mounier
Ni Yes, in system preferences. Go to Print & Fax, under the faxing tab. You will have to fill in the fields. Peter
annealmasy
Ni, we receive and send faxes on our Macs just like Peter described. Works beautifully! It's great because I can print multiple copies of the faxes. I also like it when spam comes through, because I just delete it and don't have to worry about paper being wasted. don_haines1
Not sure if it's available for Mac. But I when I had dialup, I used WinFax. It works great. Since we have DSL now and a stand alone FAX, we don't use it much.
ni_gentry
I gave this a shot with the Airport Base Station but it doesn't seem to work. Searching around the net, it seems like it's not possible with the modem in the Base Station (only for dialup internet). I guess I need a cheap fax/modem.
