wingell
This note is admittedly somewhat "off-topic," but in the larger scheme of things, members who frequent this forum might be interested in knowing that the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is hosting a comprehensive show of "documentary" artist Edward Hopper and is providing screensavers of a half-dozen of his more iconic works, including "Nighthawks" and "Chop Suey." I never dreamed of seeing my laptop screen adorned with an awesome reproduction of "Nighthawks." Go to www.mfa.org/hopper/explore.
orvillerobertson
This is awesome. I'm definitely going. Two of my favorite artists and real influences on my work are Edward Hopper and Gustave Caillebot. The last time I was at the MFA Boston a friend of mine was part of the project archiving their vast collections as scanned images, including tree-dimensional objects such as costumes and sculptures. The equipment being used was amazing and way beyond my means.
brucecahn
When Hopper's wife and heir died, she left all the paintings in the estate to the Whitney Museum in NYC. They have lots of Hoppers and often show them. She also left her own paintings to the museum. They threw them out.
richardvanle
If you're in Boston, you should also visit the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). They've got a retrospective of photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia which starts on Friday and looks like it's going to be great: ICA Website . spanky
Hopper is without a doubt my favorite American painter. I have yet to see any of his works in person (I guess he doesn't have a big following in SoCal) but I have many books about him and his work. Maybe one could even call him the Robert Frank of the painting world.
david_henderson
If this is as good as the Hopper exhibition I saw at the Tate Modern in London a couple of years ago, it's a must see.
