briandavid
Hi all, please tell me how to repair a damaged Photoshop file? Today I decided to open my file, but the program gave that "failed to fulfill your request, because it is not a valid Photoshop document."The file itself is quite large, more than 10 MB. Any ideas people about how I can get this file back in good condition, would be happy to consider?
JDMvW
A program called GraphicConverter is available in a trial version at Graphic Converter for Mac and Windows - Download Free Trial version for either Mac or Windows. I have used it and had some luck in recovering damaged and "partial" graphic files.
Norma Desmond
How are you trying to open it? If you’re getting the error message when double-clicking on the file, try doing it from Photoshop’s menu instead. Go up to FILE, hit OPEN, then navigate through your folders to the file and try opening it that way. Also, make sure the file has a proper extension, such as .psd or .jpg. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
paddler4
Hmm. That size doesn't make me optimistic. You haven't said what format the file is or what the camera is, but PSD and TIFF files that have been edited in Photoshop are generally much larger than 10 MB. photo_galleries
Is it a PSD file that you are trying to open in Photoshop CC? Has the file been previously edited in another software like Lightroom? Try to open it in another software like Lightroom. Or make a copy and change the copy's extension to tif.

julianvaughan
Here's a good trick that's works in many cases. You'll be using Fireworks to open, and re-save the Photoshop file. This will fix most corruptions. 1. Open the corrupt Photoshop file in Fireworks. 2. Use Fireworks to save it as a .psd Photoshop file. (Important: Do Not save it as a Fireworks file or another extension, because Photoshop may not recognize the layers, or you could lose data.) 3. Remember to give your file a different name when saving, so you won't overwrite your original. (A good idea would be to create a backup of your original before trying this procedure.) 4. Open your newly created file in Photoshop. 5. Remember that many effects will not show in Fireworks, but should show up in the Photoshop layers. Fireworks plays nicely with Photoshop, and generally preservers the most of the original layers/data. The older Fireworks versions are ok at this technique, but the newer CS versions are really good at preserving/transferring information. This works well when Photoshop and Fireworks are the same version/suite, to avoid the diffrent version (too old/new) conflict. If your file is badly corrupted, you may be able to get some of your data back using this technique. or you can try to use psd repair tool - PSD file repair software
