elliot1
Numerous companies are now listing grips for the D800/D800e on eBay. They are selling in the $80 to $100 range with shipping (via eBay). Some companies claim they are available for shipment immediately. Others say they won't be able to ship for a little while longer. I decided to be adventurous and ordered one and should receive it within 3 weeks and will post more information on it once it arrives.
CvhKaar
MM If i would own an expensive D800/e, i would not risk to connect it to a cheap piece of equipment from ebay i guess...., but then again : i am not that adventurous..
jared_youtsey
I'll be happy to see your report on what you ordered. $500 is too much for a spare battery holder and grip.
ShunCheung
Some people have to be pioneers to try out these third-party grips. I am sure some of them are going to be junk but some will be good. People should be thankful that Elliot is trying this out.

Once people figure out which grips are good, it'll put pressure on Nikon's MB-D12 and hopefully its price will drop to a more reasonable level. Personally, I don't care as I prefer the D800 without a grip, but this same grip could potentially be for future Nikon DSLRs such as the D300S' replacement, etc.
elliot1
I have ordered and cancelled my D800 purchase 3 times because of the numerous reported issues. In fact, I recently purchased a D3X after getting cold feet. Great body but the sensor was defective (about 100 hot pixels) and I had to return it. I have placed another order and will take delivery this time for sure of a D800e, hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks. I have used 3rd party grips before without issue. I will keep my fingers crossed on this one. And on the camera too!
