xcapekey.com
nice...well composed...would be better with a better sky....maybe a polarizer to cut the haze...maybe if u shot it late or earlier too...get some more shadows to add some drama...my .
stephen_persky
I agree, the sky is kidna plain. I did use a polarizer :). Here is another shot with much better sky. this is in Yosemite Valley overlook. Regards Steve<div></div>
btmuir
I like the overlook photo but aggree with the previous post about the time of day. Can you elaborate on what time these were shot?
xcapekey.com
ack..sorry...i see u used a polarizer...would be nicer if you could get the light hazy area in the left to match the rich blue or the right
grant_.
the light sux. its way too flat and impersonal....no character at all.....sharpness isnt everything, remember that...
stephen_persky
Another final shot. Yeah, The lighting needed some work. Also, the local forest fires made the scenery somewhat hazy. The first picture was taken at about 8am. The second was taken at about 11am. This last shot was taken at about 5pm. stephen_persky
Correction. the second shot and the last shot where taken at about the same time (4-5pm) Just different exposure/perspectives. Regards, Steve

stephen_persky
Allen, Very cool. What did you do?
Allen Herbert
Slides in ps....contrast, brightness ,colour, and the lasso tool. It?s just a case of adjusting to you get the look what pleases your tastes. The photo already has all this in it; it's just a case of bringing it out. barefoot
Steve, Read up on, and practice with, curves in ps. Even small adjustments to the default curve can bring about significant changes. I almost always change the default straight line to an s shaped curve - see image.<div></div>

peter_white2
Regarding the first image, that is the trouble with polarizers. The light in the sky has different polarity across the sky. So it's difficult with wide angle lenses to get even density in the sky with a polarizer.
terry_rory
Excuse me please for taking the liberty but I thought I would prefer B&W....<div></div>
brambor
Umm, the BW actually looks the best of the bunch. Btw...hey Stephen, looks like you are going to get your hands on the digital back that you signed up on the waiting list...

larry_kincaid1
Trevor, How about telling us inexperienced PS users the instructions you followed to convert that color photo to black and white. Seems like there's more than one way to do it.
stephen_persky
I just bought Fred Miranda's BW pulgin for conversions. It is easy to use here is the first result.<div></div>
