liz_dickerson
Hi, I would like to create a flash intro for my website. I want various photo's to flash on the screen automatically when my site is opened. Do I need to purchase Macromedia flash to do this? I have microsoft frontpage, adobe, photoshop, golive, motion, and after effects (as you can tell I can't use them yet). I am not a web developer. I do have jalbum but I can't seem to get it to do what I want (just a black background with pics transitioning smoothly). Here is a site with an example of what a want (only smaller so it fits on sceen). http://www.porterphotography.net/flash/flash.html Thanks for any advice. ~Liz
leon_schnell
Yes, I'm pretty sure you need Macromedia Flash to create flash intros. That said, I'm really not sure that a splash screen is the wisest option - it looks pretty the first time, and annoys the hell out of repeat visitors looking for some quick information. What might be a good compromise is an almost empty front-page that displays both the site's main navigation and an embedded flash animation - that way both sets of users get what they want ;)
leon_schnell
Just after posting that I remembered that I had the code to a JavaScript pics-changer on an old webpage of mine. I quickly yanked it off there and added a couple of quick tips, and you can see the website <a href="http://www.leon.rucus.net/picschanger.html">here</a> and see the actual code for that page <a href="http://www.leon.rucus.net/picschangercode.doc">here</a> (you'll need to modify it for your website). It'll probably be easier to use and maintain than a flash intro (though won't be as spiffy with dissolve effects etc), and best of all it's free. If you have any problems with it you can post here and I'll try to answer them.
kal_danner
Hi Liz, Hope you're practising your photography daily. I agree with Leon. I think it's best to keep away from Flash for now. You can create a simple slideshow using Frontpage. Go to Insert - Picture - New Photo Gallery, choose your pictures then go to Layout - choose Slide Show. Please view my website: www.kaldanner.com and see if you like this presentation. Please let me know. I may have other alternatives.
jmoody
I've got a flash intro on mine, but a friend did it for me and it's been problematic on some computers... However, my "original" home page (which is now page two) has a nice auto running slideshow with smooth transitions that I copied from some bank mortgage website. Feel free to rip off the code from me & just change the photos to your own. If unsure how, go to the page, click on "view" up at the top of your browser and then choose "source". Highlight the needed code, right click, copy... then paste it into a "wordpad" document and mess with it on your page till it works http://www.jmoodyphoto.com
jmoody
oops. just visited your page. Looks like we went to the same school of web design. Anyway, doubt my page will have anything you don't already have but feel free to write if it helps. Nice photos by the way!
liz_dickerson
Thanks everyone. I'll try some of these suggestions. For now I just went the keep it simple technique. I love the flash sites though. I have heard many complaints about them but they seem to have a more wow appeal to my audience (mothers). Kal, yep I'm practicing everyday. I just put my three most recent shots on my cover page! Just love photo.net! Not sure why I went to school for nursing. Photographs are so much more fun. It's going to take alot longer than 4 years to learn though! ~Liz
roger aylstock - californi
Another handy tool I found is SimpleViewer. Easy way to put up some gallery images. Here is the link to Simpleviewer http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/ I am using it on a couple of my galleries: http://www.aylstockphotography.com/gallery_b_d/gallery_b_d.htm Cheers, Rog
www.philwinterphotography.
Check out this link: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/fadeinslideshow.htm This is a javascript routine I've used several times. It's easy to install and set up, and the images fade from one to another. Regards, Phil
