card stock?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am entering a local photo contest at a local fair type setting, the

online instructions say to submit the photo on "card stock" with a 1" matte, and

to not use frames as they may get damaged from handling. I know this sounds like

a silly question but what exactly is "card stock"? thanks

Cardstock is "cardboard" or chipboard - a hard, single-layer material (as opposed to corrugated board), usually brown.

I think they equate matting board with cardboard. Matting board has a decorative coating, and can be used to mount the print. It can also be cut with an opening to be used as a mat.

See if they will accept foam-core mounting board. It is flatter, lighter, more stable and doesn't get dinged on the edges as badly as cardboard.

ok, that clarifies it, they probably would accept foam board as its a pretty casual contest, tons of categories, 50cents to enter and a $4 first prize, obviously its about fun and ribbons, so basically i need to go to staples and find something that will support and flatter the pictures(color wise) and cut it to 1" border around the picture. Thanks for the replies.
