wally_archibald
Hi all, I am entering a local photo contest at a local fair type setting, the online instructions say to submit the photo on "card stock" with a 1" matte, and to not use frames as they may get damaged from handling. I know this sounds like a silly question but what exactly is "card stock"? thanks

Ed_Ingold
Cardstock is "cardboard" or chipboard - a hard, single-layer material (as opposed to corrugated board), usually brown. I think they equate matting board with cardboard. Matting board has a decorative coating, and can be used to mount the print. It can also be cut with an opening to be used as a mat. See if they will accept foam-core mounting board. It is flatter, lighter, more stable and doesn't get dinged on the edges as badly as cardboard. wally_archibald
ok, that clarifies it, they probably would accept foam board as its a pretty casual contest, tons of categories, 50cents to enter and a $4 first prize, obviously its about fun and ribbons, so basically i need to go to staples and find something that will support and flatter the pictures(color wise) and cut it to 1" border around the picture. Thanks for the replies.
Ed_Ingold
The selection at Staples is pretty slim (or none). Try an hobby/craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. You could also have your photo dry-mounted at a frame shop. "The Great Frame-Up" in Chicago is very reasonable and fast.
eric friedemann
Most any office supply store- i.e. Office Depot- has card stock: http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=462362&Ntt=card%20stock&uniqueSearchFlag=true&An=text With precut mats, as with most all other items, there's a dot.com: http://www.precutmats.com/categories.php
