vinny_walsh
Malibu Creek State Park is one of my favorites, also Vasquez Rocks.
zaitona
Close to LA: Descanso Gardens, Huntington Gardens, LA Arboritum, Echo Park Lotus ponds, Getty Musuem Gardens. Various waterfalls in Angeles National Forest (assuming it's not closed due to wildfires). Farther away: Joshua Tree National Park, Anza Borrego State Park (but not in the summer) If you like architecture they are lots of cool buildings in and around LA, starting with the Disney Hall and Cathedral in downtown. aaron_lam
Palos Verdes has a lighthouse and beautiful cliffs. Hit the tourist sights: Melrose, Hollywood/Vine, Santa Monica Pier.
craig_gillette
Downtown is full of interesting architecture, old and new. The Disney Concert hall is as fascinating as the new cathedral seems boring, at least externally, but going south from the Music Center area, towards the library has several interesting areas, Arco Plaza, Wells Fargo, then going east towards Angles Flight (not operating) but there is an urban water park (fountains, etc.) then the stairs down towards Grand Central Market and the old downtown, you can then take the Red Line back to Union Terminal and the Plaza, Olvera Street area from Pershing Square. San Pedro has the harbor, easily shot from around Ports of Call, the Maritime Museum and memorials, Korean Bell, Point Fermin and Palos Verde. Some of the old cemetaries in East L.A. are interesting, and the Forest Lawn, San Fernando Mission and some of the others have a variety of celebrity burial points. It would help to have some idea of what might interest you.
