filippobardazzi
Hi everyone! This is my first post here: I greet everybody in this community and I already have a question for all of you. I bought 2 months ago a new Holga 120 CFN. Looking at all the snaps I've found on the net I noticed that every photo has black corners at its 4 angles. This is one of the reason that make Holga so special, peculiar!I tried to develope the negatives, but in the photo I've taken there are no black corners. Any explanation? Advice? Thank you! phule
It sounds like you were shooting with the 6x4.5 mask instead of the 6x6 mask.
filippobardazzi
Not at all... I was shooting with the 6x6 mask on a 120 film...
patrick j dempsey
Maybe you got one of the "fancy" Holga's with the glass lens and its performing better. Also, some examples I have seen with plastic lenses don't have the vignetting as pronounced. You can fake it with a cut-off toilet paper tube taped to the front of the camera. justinblake
Ditch the mask, shoot your 6x6 with no mask at all and you will get slightly bigger shots with vignetting. Just make sure you put some black electical tape over the two sharp edges that will be exposed to your film (so it doesn't scratch) and two little holes exposed where the top of the mask was or you may get light leaks. filippobardazzi
@patrick dempsey: No I don't have any fancy Holga! LOL Pure plastic! @Justin Blake: So I'll try to shoot with no mask, thank you!
evan_goulet
Well, you won't get the vignetting if you are properly exposing your corners. I won't see a strong vignette if there is some bright sky or other source of light in the corner of the frame. What film speed did you use, and under what type of lighting were you shooting? richterjw
i regularly shoot 6x6 with 400 speed film and rarely experience pronounced vignetting in my holga. have shot in many lighting situations. guess it just depends how qc is feeling that day. jr
filippobardazzi
That is what I meant to say! No vignetting in any light situations and film speed...
