big problem

if you need choose one,what you choose.<br>

The Fd 55mmf1:1.2 aspherical or the new Fd 50mm f1:1.2L</p>

<p>I'm not sure why this is a big problem, as the title indicates. For me the answer would be simple...I'd go for the new FD f1:1.2L, as it incorporates and improves upon the the aspherical characteristics of its predecessor. Personally, having owned faster Canon and Leica lenses in the past, I probably wouldn't go after either unless the price was incredibly irresistible and their condition was near mint. Wide open, these lenses aren't easy to focus razor sharp because you don't have the DOF to give you a comfort zone - at least that was my experience.</p>

<p>I've got the FD 50mm f1.2L and like it a lot. It's a bit soft at f1.2 but tack sharp by f2.</p>

 

Bigger problem would be to find either one within your budget.

<p>Thanks to all,i have both,and i use them cery often,and i can´t distinguish what is beter,the 50 1.2L is in my F-1new and the 55 f1.2 ssc aspherical is always in my other F-1 original.<br>

They are both very good,i shoot slides and bw.</p>

 

<p>I also have both lenses. The 55/1.2 Aspherical is perhaps a little sharper, but the 50/1.2 L has smoother bokeh. For me, it's a wash.</p>

<p>Given all that has been said, maybe another consideration is weight. The 50mm f1.2L at 380 grams is a lot lighter then the 55mmat 575 grams.</p>
