pjmeade
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
What seems to be a piece of the sensor mount or surround has become detatched and moved in front of the sensor.
(This happened the evening we arrived on holiday and immediately before my 7D gave error 30 messaages and stopped working altogether.)

phule
If there's something loose in there, I would think you would be able to see it if you set the camera to sensor cleaning mode.

JDMvW
Your 7D quit and then this happened to your 5D?

I'd appreciate it if you could tell me whereabouts you are planning to be over the next few weeks so I can avoid the place.

Seriously, don't know what it is, but 5Ds did have the mirror problems - could that be it?
pjmeade
Hello Rob, I did set it to sensor cleaning and yes, there was something with a non reflective surface lying across the sensor (filter). It looked as though it had that slightly furry black finish and looked like it had moved from around the sensor.
phule
That would be a pretty bad sign. Did your 5D previously receive the mirror fix from Canon?

pjmeade
I had the mirror problem a couple of years ago. Over the weekend, I'll be shooting a 2-day polo tournament with my back-up gear. Not good
