205FCC Support Plate mystery

<p>I needed to remove the tripod foot on my 205FCC recently, and I noticed, through one of the keyhole shaped holes in the support plate, a spacer or washer that was misaligned. I tried to straighten it up, but couldn't get the support plate off. The image below shows what I'm talking about.<br>

So, what should I do with the misaligned spacer/washer [1]? Can I remove the support plate or is it fastened beyond the screws [2] by the rivets [3] at the bottom of the image?<br>

<p>I don't particularly want to remove the plate, but it's not easy to get to the thing underneath without doing so.<br>

I could leave it alone of course, but it's annoying me - because someone reassembled this in a splapdash manner, and because I don't know if it has a purpose or is just supposed to cover the underneath of the hole.</p>

<p>The two slotted screws on the top of the picture do not appear to be original either.<br>

<p>Well, got hold of an exploded view and it's a flat spring. Not sure what it tensions but managed to line it up better and left it alone. The screws seem ok, original or not. Thanks for the responses all, panic over.<br>
