rene_kassis
I am the happy owner of a Nikon F3 HP, and recently bought a metz flash (cobra style) weighting around 480g to go with another medium format camera I own. Would it be too heavy and potentially damaging on the F3? (I know I need the AS-4 adapter and that I will loose any TTL capability anyway). Comments are most welcome. ellis_vener_photography
I doubt that you are going to do any damage to the F3hp but isn't the Metz you describe designed to attach to the camera via the tripod mount with a bracket ?
robert_kennedy
I thought the cobra flashes were shoe mounted.
mskovacs
I use a Metz 40-AF4 TTL flash on my F3HP with no problems. If your Metz does Nikon TTL and you can stomach $120, get the AS-17. It'll let you do TTL flash on your F3HP.
lex_jenkins
The lugs around the rewind knob on the F3 are very strong, stronger than any of the adapters themselves. Just be careful mounting the AS-4 or whichever adapter you choose - make sure it's fully seated before twisting the locking collar closed. Once fitted properly it should be strong enough to support most flash units. But keep in mind the adapters tend to be overpriced. For not much more money you could buy a decent frame for mounting the flash.
