jay bee
Sal - PayPal is very reputable and in fact has been recently purchased by eBay. No fears necessary.
el_fang
http://www.paypalwarning.com (Yes, generally speaking people are happy with PayPal, but as you might expect there's always two sides to every story.) jackflesher
I use PayPal regularly for all of my online sales. It is a snap and easy to use. Cheers,

kelly_flanigan1
Salvatore; My business sells non photographic items on Ebay as a sideline. We have used paypal for about 1 1/2 years without a problem. On a 100 dollar transaction; they take a dollar or two; so we get only 98 dollars; if you send us 100 dollars. Using a VISA card also takes the same amount; so it is a wash .. With cash or moneyorders; there is a delay due to the slow mail system many times. We hold checks for 10 to 15 business days; it takes a "local" check manytimes 9 days to bounce and for the banks to notify us...Our local bank has no way of saying the check is good; unless one waits the magic 10 to 15 business days. The average time to bounce on local checks is 7 business days; with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 14 days...This is for checks drawn on banks only 40km away...

We prefer paypal because it moves the inventory quickly...

Checks are a total royal pain. We get all these whining "well my bank says the check has cleared" messages; usually about the same day we receive the check in the mail! Since it is about impossible to collect money on bounced checks ; we hold all items to OUR bank says it is ok....

We have received PayPal payments from France, Canada, and the UK....Most all are from the USA.. Niels - NHSN
Make sure that they support withdrawals in your country (in case you have to return a purchased item for a refund or want to sell something). Paypal does not offer this service in all countries (unless you have a US bank account).
You may also want to check how much Paypal charges for this service. Last time I checked it was 7$ to withdraw from Paypal to a Japanese account(not including posssible bank charges involved in this transaction).
As far as I understand Paypal conducts all its business in US$. You may want to check with your bank or credit card service if they will add fees for currency conversion etc.
Paypal's international webpage is very poor, and I wonder if they are dedicated to international users or not? giles_poilu
Here is a definite vote AGAINST Paypal. As a UK ebay dealer mainly exporting to the US it is a necessary evil that I have to offer. However it is very expensive for UK users and IMO a rip off as I get charged three times! Take a transaction of say, US$150 or UK £100 (at $1.50=£1): Firstly ebay (sorry, Paypal) take around 3% commission ($4.50) then they use a $ to £ exchange rate at least 10 cents below that in central London so my $145.50 becomes £90 (instead of £97) and lastly they charge $1.50 to withdraw the money into a bank account. So for £100 of sold goods I loose over £10 or 10%+ to Paypal - a very expensive way to do business!
kens
That's a shame about extra-US transactions. As a US resident it's a no-brainer for me. I wonder if Canadian users have the same difficulties?
tony_brookes
I have several friends who buy on ebay here in the UK but they have all given up Paypal as being ferociously expensive.I cannot comment on the US but it seems that quite a few people are using it. My credit card people say that a fraud was committed on my account through a US purchase but they could not say how it originated. I now use Mastercard direct through duplicated and triplicated emails. No problems.I don't think Ebay would use it if it were not secure.
