markci
We had this discussion a week or two ago, but I don't think it went anywhere. I've loadd the photo.net home page twice today. Both times the "photo" up for critique has had no photographic content whatsoever. This was the latest one. Unless they've started installing fractal generation software in the Coolpix 950, this didn't come out of a camera.
Digital manipulation of a photograph is one thing. Total digital fabrication is something else altogether, and I am sick to death of seeing it all over the site.
I think it's up to the user community to police itself; obviously it's not practical for anyone at photo.net to look at every upload. However, in order to do that we need a clear statement of photo.net's policy we can point to. If people want to upload this stuff in their own personal folders it's probably not the end of the world. At minimum, though, they shouldn't be allowed to submit something for critique that has no photographic content of any kind.
gannet___
I'm pretty open-minded about (digital or non-) image manipulation, but I agree with what Mark has said here. It nees to at least start out as a "photographic" image.
