matt_stevens1
I am a new member and recently uploaded three photos. However, When, viewed on photonet, they are very large in the medium setting. As I am new to this, I suspect I am not compressing the images or doing (or not doing) something on my end thats is causing this. My question is: what do I need to do to optimize my uploads? Thanks! rich815
You need to re-size and re-save them on your computer first and then upload them. You are uploading the images straight from the digicam. These are good files for you to have for future printing purposes but are much too large for uploading and sharing on the internet. Your camera most likely came with some kind of image-manipulation software, no? If so open it, go to the help menu and look up "re-sizing" and learn how to re-size and re-save your images. I'd re-size them to 500, 600 or 800 pixels wide or tall for uploading to photo.net. If not, there are loads of shareware image programs available on the internet for download. rich815
Oh, and when you do so remember to re-save at a different name so you do not overwrite your "archive" original files.
Jeremy Stein
Just a note from the FAQ: photos to be uploaded must be jpg files, files no larger than 100,000 bytes, pictures no wider than 800 pixels, and no taller than 600 pixels. You may want to sharpen them a little after resizing them, since most will benefit from a <little> sharpening. If you need more specific advice, e-mail me direct, and I'll see if I can help.
