CvhKaar
Nikon has a new software in its download center for tethering the Z-series cameras + the D^and D780, seemingly not fo the D500 .. :-( Nikon | Download center | NX Tether (nikonimglib.com)
ilkka_nissila
They might add support to older cameras later on. When they launched their webcam utility software, it only supported a few cameras at first and then they added support to more cameras a bit later. NX Studio has a new version 1.1. as well. mike_halliwell
This sentence seems a bit weird.... If you wish to display the view through the camera lens in the computer monitor while taking pictures remotely, use Camera Control Pro 2 (available for purchase separately). So NX Tether is blind?? Quite a lot of tethering software don't display the LV image. It depends on what you're using it for, whether it is an issue. For example some just shoot with the camera using the viewfinder or camera's LCD and the images appear through the tethering software on the computer, and you can then edit them. If used for remote controlled camera, then you want live view, for which you need another piece of software. GEnerally when using the computer for remote control, you can't use the camera's controls, so it's not suitable for studio shooting of portraits, for example, where you may want to make frequent adjustments to composition. mike_halliwell
Ah, OK. So basically all the computer 'sees' is an external hard drive and sucks the images out of the camera. That can't take much effort to make compatible with older cameras....?

One advantage of using Nikon software for tethering is that you can choose to keep the files on both the camera card and the connected computer, whereas many third-party options only transfer it to the computer without preserving the on-card copy.
ilkka_nissila
Also the Nikon software supports wireless tethering whereas many third-party programs (that are commonly used for tethering, such as Capture One or Lightroom Classic) do not. mike_halliwell
Nikon software supports wireless tethering So, does it run alongside Snapbridge or replace it?
ilkka_nissila
So, does it run alongside Snapbridge or replace it? NX Tether is software for computers, Snapbridge is for mobile devices. :)
