dorothy_kay
I have a new Nikon D5600 which works great with my Nikkor glass. The problem is with the new Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM for Nikon lens that I just purchased. It doesn't do a thing! I checked compatibility and it is supposed to be a great lens for my camera, but what is going on??? The shutter release button doesn't even work. DavidTriplett
Return under warranty to Sigma? If Sigma says it works on your D5600, and it does not, while Nikkor lenses do, then it is a malfunction and should be covered by your warranty (if any). You might also try it on any other, particularly older Nikon bodies to see if it works on them. (Backwards compatibility is more reliable, generally.) If not, then it is likely a defective lens. That's my best guess, anyway. The high proportion of outstanding reviews suggest one of two problems: First, maybe there's a switch or button that's only half-way set, leaving an open circuit necessary for correct function. Second, is there a camera setting that makes this lens inoperable? This seems less likely, but also a possibility. As noted above, if all settings are correct, but the lens refuses to function on this or another body, then return for refund or replacement. A third, less likely issue, is that the lens firmware was incorrectly or incompletely installed. This is also a warranty item.
mike_halliwell
Does the camera even know there's a lens attached? It should show shutter speed and aperture details on the back screen. I love mine and it works on my D5300, D7200 and D500.
dorothy_kay
Thank you for your answers. I discovered that the lens does NOT operate in any camera settings while in Auto focus mode. But when I set it on Manual focus it is operable. It is a brand new lens with full warranty which was purchased online from a reputable store. I will be returning it for a refund and repurchasing from a local camera shop I can establish a relationship with. Mike, I'm glad to hear that you love yours. I can't wait to get a new copy! mike_halliwell
Mike, I'm glad to hear that you love yours. I can't wait to get a new copy! If your needs reach a little further, the 50-100mm f1.8 is awesome on my D500 for action sports. Sometimes I wish they'd made/make a 30-60mm f1.8 to bridge the gap!
