P 67II flash

Hi All,

I've ordered a P67II body and want to get a flash for middle distance

fill and macro work.

The Pentax AF 500 FTZ seems like the best bet but I'm not sure what

other (Metz, et al) units will give full TTL functions with the 67II

body. My local camera store is a little light on technical know how.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Joe

I use with good results, a Metz CT45-4 with the 3mm bus + dedicated

(LX) contacts on the body, which gives TTL flash. so you do not need

the speciale grip, and you can use the flash remote from the camera.

The technology used in the P67II is the same as the LX (35 mm body

from 1980). The Metz 300 system (if my memory serves me well the

pentax adapter is Nr 372)already fully covers the P67II possibilities

(TTL flash). The Metz 3000 also works but you pay for AF features,

which is the same drawback of the Pentax AF 500 FTZ.

Hope this helps

As Gert Jan already pointed out, you don't need all the features of

the AF 500 FTZ unit for the Pentax 67II. Any SCA 300 dedicated flash

with SCA adapter 372 (your memory serves you well, Gert Jan) will do

the job. I use a Braun Ultrablitz 38M Logic with SCA 372. The Braun

flash is more than 20 years old but in combination with a P67II it

offers the same functionality as an AF 500 FTZ. Personally, I prefer

these old flashes because they feel more solid than their current

competitors. And they are cheap: I paid less than 50 USD on eBay for

the flash + adapter combination in mint condition. Compare this with

the price of an AF 500 FTZ. An alternative to the Braun 38M would be

the Metz 36CT3, which is easier to find on the 2nd hand market, or

the more powerful Metz 45CT4 unit, which Gert Jan already mentioned.
