T-mount adapters for Z series

Just a heads up. I use t-mount adapters to interface with microscopes and telescopes. I bought a Vivitar t-mount for my Z6 and it wouldn't fit. Always go gently with new stuff. Turns out the mount was machined off center for one operation, leading to misshapen bayonet tabs. Returned it no problem, but I don't know if the problem was a one-off, or if they had a whole bad run. I bought an inexpensive Fotasy off Amazon, and it was nicely made and fit perfectly.

Yes, you can use existing t-mount adapters with the FTZ, but I like a one piece solution where possible.

I got 'K&F Concept' - AKA, Kent-Faith - adapters for my Sony E-mount cameras. They're reasonably priced and well-made.

No problems so far with M42, 39mm LTM and Nikon adapters. I have two each of the M39 and M42 adapters to keep on different regularly used lenses.

I wouldn't mind a camera adapter for my Meade telescope, but the price is ridiculous, and the thread used seemingly not available from any 3rd party. Wish I had access to a lathe these days.

Sorry Steve.

The search term 'Meade' returns 'Nothing found' on that website.

It would appear to have broken since I posted that this morning.

Hope Rafael is ok, things look a bit 'iffy' in Belarus at the moment.

I've bought a few bits from him in the past, might be worth sending an email, he really knows his stuff when it comes to obscure adaptors.

Amazing how expensive these have become. I bought mine decades ago when they were cheap. It's getting cold here, which keeps me out of my garage shop, but it looks like an easy adapter to make. I'll see if I can come up with something if we have a warm day.

FWIW, the thread nomenclature isn't that strange, but I've found telescope companies don't hold tightly to standards and you have to be aware that some are just routinely tight or loose.

Thanks Mike.

Yes, I think it's the 'ETX' 1.375" x 24 tpi thread.

That would be M35 x 1, near enough. I probably couldn't find an adapter because I was searching for a 35mm diameter thread. I forgot that our US friends are stuck in the Imperial inch/gallon/ounce age.;)

I'll search again for one-and-three-eighth inch threads.

Thanks again Steve. I hope your guy in Belarus is OK too.

FWIW, I found out recently that the Imperial inch was re-defined in 1959 as being exactly 25.4mm. Before that it was 25.39 something, something, something millimetres. So don't pick up any pre-war rulers and expect 'em to be accurate!

The Meade adapter is 32mm on the telescope end, IIRC, and 42mm T-mount thread at the camera end.

The only 'official' adapters I can find are sold from the US, and the postage makes the purchase quite expensive - for what it is.

The Meade adapter is just perfect I think. I used the Canon EOS adapter to connect it to my Canon 70D and I am more than satisfied. But yes, I agree that it's overpriced a bit. I just think that Meade is taking advantage of the situation.

Is it ok with your T-mount thread?

How did it go?

:) or :(?

I only received it yesterday, so delivery was timely. It fits the Meade threaded port, but the weather's stopped me trying it out properly yet. I suspect the tube is a bit longer than the Meade version - so fingers crossed I can get infinity focus with the 'scope, camera and T-mount combo.
