Film Camera Week for November 23

Recommended Posts

Finally got to test my Isolette II after transferring the Solinar Lens from my defunct Isolette III. Pancro 400 exposed at ISO 200 and developed in PMK. Wet-scanned on BSH/V700. Increased agitation to get a much improved result compared to my prior usage. Overall, very pleased this time.

I thought I'd post a Camera Portrait, the result of a couple of hour's work on a wet and dismal Sunday afternoon. That's one nice thing about classic cameras; if the weather's too poor to use them one can always photograph them. This setup was rather a challenge, due to a mixture of black and chrome and my idiotic decision to use a glassy black background, but I'm quite pleased with the result. For those of you who might be interested, the camera involved was a Canon 5DII with a Canon EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 lens.

My lust in 1960 ( 18 yo) was for a Lotus !, but with due reverence, the Healey 3000 started the passion. Aloha, Bill

Love Rick's photos of the big Healey and your photo of the Lotus. In the states I believe this Healey would be called a Mk III due it its roll up windows and other "refinements". A '62 MkII lit the fire for me and began a procession of sports cars and a passion that still burns today.

No photos this week, but should have two rolls back from Dwayne's soon.

I cleaned up and sold this summer's thrift shop camera finds, and put the proceeds towards a few other items on my list. I've taken a liking to Miranda cameras; they were an interesting system, and the gear is quite affordable. A recent find was this Automex III which included a set of M44 extension tubes, pistol grip, flash bracket, case, 5cm lens and even the original box (not shown), all for $20.

Another find was this clean RE II, one of the last models the company made. It's an updated Sensomat with open-aperture metering using E/EC lenses (stopped-down metering was only possible using a separate CM Converter, which is quite hard to find).

Both seem to be in perfect working condition, with accurate meters. After replacing the seals, they will be ready for film testing.

I'd agree with you whole-heartedly, Dave. I'm a great Miranda fan, and I think they're a vastly underrated family of cameras. My personal favourite among the later Mirandas is the Auto Sensorex EE, one of the last of the line. It would be hard to find a more solid and better-finished SLR. I posted some notes on it some time ago:

Almost the Last Miranda

Good luck with your collecting!

Thanks, Rick. I started experimenting with color filters and black & white film during the mid to late 1970's. I used my dad's Vivitar K2 that he'd had since the late 1960's. I bought from stock at our family camera shop three yashica filters: a red 25, orange, and green. I still have the orange and green along with the VIvitar. This is when I learned that CDS me ters often underexpose slightly with the red filter. During the late 70's I often combined the #25 red with a polarizing filter for even more dramatic sky darkening.

My recent red filter, is a Hoya. I also have a deep red (#29) filter that I've used from time to time. My favorite filter now is the #15 (deep yellow).
