Epson Perfection V850 crashes after each scan

This started out of nowhere.

I start my scanner, click preview, click scan. When I load a new negative and click preview, the scanning software crashes. I close it out and try to open the scanning software again, but an error message says that the software cannot communicate with the scanner. I have to reboot my laptop to get another scan.

This happens with Epson and Silverfast software.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver multiple times.

I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. This doesn't happen on my laptop running Windows 7, but that's my work machine and I can't use it much.

Do you have any experience with this sort of issue?

I had a similar problem with my V600. Check out the problem on YouTube - worked for me. Type this into YouTube search bar

It's a longshot but try replacing the cable. One broken wire can cause all sorts of issues in a multi wire cable.
