28mm F2.8 AFD Nikkor on D300

I know it is the equivalent of 42mm on the D300, but how does the combo perform.

I don't have the D300 but I have the same lens on the D1x and it works fine. It's closer to the normal lens than a 35mm lens

I've used it on the D1-X too, also the D100 and D200, good results. Should be fine on the D300.

On D200 28mm f/2.8D delivers solid but not exeptional performance. If You are used to 38mm rangefinders the framing is very close. I have also 28mm f/3.5 Ai-s which may be sharper or then I usually shoot bit more stopped down with it, have not verified cause yet.

I had the 28mm f/3.5 AI and was quite happy with it but it was stolen along with my F2AS in 1984. When I buy the AF version I opted for the 28mm AF-D thinking it's better but I could be wrong because I never can compare them side to side.
