ND Filters / holder system vs screw-on type? and stops?

<p>I think a neutral density filter is what I am after...for those luscious long waterfall exposures that really transform the water. </p>

<p>I have a Nikon d750 with the 24-120 kit lens as well as the 18-35. Filter size for both lenses is 77mm.</p>

<p>Yes. A ND filter ( not a ND graduated filter) is what you need and a 6 stop is a good place to start. </p>

<p>If you don't plan to get filters that you need to position carefully and in variable positions in front of the lens, and you have the same filter thread on both your lenses, it seems to make more sense to get a screw-in filter. Its a faster to use, takes up a bit less space and weight in the bag, and the filter is likely to be glass rather than resin which some of the filters used with holders are. Likely to be better value too- no hardware to buy. Naturally if you'd said you wanted grad filters I'd be giving different advice, but in the situation you describe I think its pretty clear -cut.</p>

I prefer the screw-on type of mon-graduated ND filters as the screw mount eliminates the possibility of flare caused by light

leaks around the seals.

As to brand, i have switched from om B+W and Heliopan to Vü and breakthrough.photography as

the latter brands 0.6ND (2-stop) and 3.0 ND (10-stop) versions are farmore neutral and the others have issues with hard

to correct infrared wavelength color contamination.
