mark_mcknight1
Hi all,
Haven't used this thing before. Hope somebody out there can help. The back on my 4x5 (TOYO 45CF) recently broke. I ordered a used back on eBay that should have been comparable but this one was too thick for the metal clasps on the body to connect it. I ordered a brand new one from Adorama (model number is 180-820, the exact product prescribed by Toyo's official website for this camera) and it doesn't fit for the same reason...
http://www.toyoview.com/Products/Accessories/45ACFac.html
I'm so confused. Any insight greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Mark

bob_salomon
Why not contact the Mac Group and ask them? They are the distributor for the USA as you can see from the bottom line of your link in your post above.
mark_mcknight1
That's the first thing I did - have not been able to reach a rep. Additionally, thought I might learn something about the camera I didn't already know from someone on these forums who didn't have a financial interest in selling me one (i.e. Mac Group). Appreciate the suggestion though. If anybody has had any experience with this issue, i'd love to hear it. Thanks so much in advance.
bob_salomon
Just contact the Toyo tech rep for Mac. Whoever it is is not going to jump on you. And they are usually factory trained. On line here you don't really know what you will get. Especially since you probably don't want to invest in a third back. After all, you are a supporter of their equipment already. dhbebb
I know a lot about view cameras but nothing about Toyo. However, if I were confronted with your problem, I'd try to find out via the serial number when your camera was made and if a design change was made during its product life cycle. I'd also try to find out by using a caliper gauge exactly which dimension of the "new" backs is causing them not to fit and how easy/difficult it would be if necessary to have one of these backs machined to fit. As Bob says, talking to Toyo technical service would be a good idea.

mark_mcknight1
Hi all,
Final answer: CF back frame w/ locks is part number 126-20 and *NOT* 180-820 as the Toyo website lists. I was looking for (and consequently, ordering) the wrong part.
For anyone who comes across this post in the future, the cost of the 126-20 back through MAC is approx. $275 and there is a 6 month waiting list to receive it. Looks like my best bet is buying either an entire used 45CF or 45AX body for around the same price and then throwing my lens on the front.
Thanks so much to everyone who replied with feedback!
Mark
