Former Soviet Union camera repairs & CLA

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Now that we have a breather & can research the "old" postings, I hope some of you CMC people can input CURRENT resources for getting FSU cameras repaired or CLA'd. World wide is great.
I have recently been "bitten" and now have both of the popular models (Fed-3 & Zorki-4) that need help far beyond my klutzy ability. The Fed a new shutter curtain, the Zorki a serious CLA for shutter speeds & more.
Please list the resource(s) you know that are less than 2 years out. Thanks, Bill

00e7QB-565141984.jpg.fab26a24e7e0c02677266fabd5617b9c.jpg

Hello everyone. Dave, Martin, my thanks for the input. I visited Oleg's site and put an email to his order.. ady, but could not get another one off since my Russian is zip! By any chance do you have his email ady Martin? Looks like he works on a variety of the FSU cameras.
Please don't stop passing any other resources folks...I think there are more people out in the Photo.net community that have some FSU cameras needing help !

Bill Hi! Zorki 4 CLA is quite simple. You can do it at home. I have done several of them, as well as the curtain work on the Feds. I am a little slowed down now due to muscular and joint pains. I can provide instructions to you by email to help you [DIY] do it yourself. If you are game for it.
There are two companies that do excellent work on Soviet cameras in Calcutta [Kolkatta]. One is Mr Yazdhani's Kamera Werke and the other is Lateef Precision Instruments. If you are interested in any of these, please let me know. I shall be happy to provide more details, addresses, etc. Regards, SP.

Hello again. Thanks for the info John. I visited the forum and now understand why my email early last month has gone unanswered. I know his status, as my house was destroyed last year in a massive Wa. fire event. I will wait for a bit.
Subbarayan will you please pass me the information for the two companies you mentioned. I do not have the tools (see above) and am now expierencing very shaky hands (old age sucks). Modern shipment methods are now world wide and if these people can help me, FedEx, UPS or whomever will have several packages asap. Please post the information here so others might find it if they also need repairs. Many thanks. Bill

Do not listen to SP. He is a highly skillful mechanical engineer with years of experience. What is easy for him is not easy for most of people around. If you have never repair Z-4 before and you do not want to sacrifice the camera just find someone who can. There are bunch of people who can fix Z-4 for reasonable price even in the USA. I think that Clarence Gass can. Just google him and ask. He claims that he can do any camera. Did Canon 7s for me.

Hello again and Thanks for all the inputs...keep them rolling in please. Kozma, I have spent some time on Google for Mr. Gass but have not located any address (snail mail) or other means to contact him. Do you have an email address or telephone? Please send that data to my private email to respect his "retirement" privacy. Thanks, Bill

The price for some of these cameras are low enough that it hardly seems worth an expensive CLA.

I have a Zorki 5 that seems to work, though the rangefinder is way off.

Are the Leica clones similar enough to Leica that you can use Leica instructions?
Seems to me that, as quality cameras go, the Leica models are about as simple as they come.

Hello again. Thank's again Kozma. I have dashed an email off to Mr. Gass. Oleg sent me an email the other day and said he will most likely be up and doing business again sometime in November. Recovering from a fire takes time, even with the best of circumstances. I also have emails and snail mails off to all the contacts given here. My Thank's to all. Bill

Hello again everyone. Mr. Gass contacted me less than an hour after I emailed him at the ady you provided Kozma...Thanks. The black Fed-3 with the holes in the shutter curtain is now on it's way to him for a "professional" patch as well as it's CLA. Mean while, the Red Fed-3 is working smoothly. Here the latest from yesterdays test session, where else, but at the Marina. Bill

00e8NU-565303784.jpg.32224ae9c3dbd348addb53878e3725d0.jpg
