painting plate cover bottom base of D800

<p>I plan to buy a second hand D800 with few shots. The plate bottom base is vey stripped and grey-white plastic appears. Is it possible to paint it ? How proceed ?<br>

<p>Sometimes I would use a market to "paint" over that. However, the bigger question is what kind of shape that D800 is it. Are there signs of abuse?</p>

<p>Good shape in my opinion and 20 000 shots. The seller says that he rubs it during transport without bag.</p>

<p>The "grey-white plastic" is actually the magnesium chassis. Magnesium is difficult to paint and needs specialist primers.</p>

 

<p>If there is a case for it that covers the bottom, I would get one of those. Only use the bottom half if the lens is too big to fit the top over. I haven't looked at the cases recently.</p>

<p>Seems that the case is CF-DC4. I can't tell from the pictures if it is two piece or one.</p>

<p>I would use some model paint, like Testers enamel. You can get it at any hobby store, and even Wal-Mart. I've used it on firearms sights and it stands up very well. Just dab it on with a small brush.</p>

<p>Personally, I like this kind of natural wear. I hate to be a naysayer, but I think painting the worn spots might end up making it look worse. </p>
