My understanding is that Voigtlander is one of the oldest camera makers.
I'm hoping to find out what model it is, how old and also how to open it up as I do not want to break anything.
Any information is greatly appreciated!

Dustin McAmera
Looks like one of these:
http://www.collection-appareils.fr/x/html/appareil-21138-Voigtlander_Vag.html

Many folding plate cameras open with a catch operated by a button concealed under the leather (below the carrying handle). Feel for a slight bump under the leather, and if there is one, press it.

dhbebb
In general this is a camera with a format 9x12 cm. The back accepts either a focusing screen and hood OR sheet film in so-called single metal slides OR a rollfilm holder (looking for a RFH is your best bet if you want to take pictures with the camera). Pete's link states that between 1926 and 1928 there was a switch from wood to metal bodies. This type of camera was called a "hand or stand" model, for use either hand-held or on a tripod, it has rising front movement, used mainly for photographing buildings, and would focus quite close, probably to a foot or so. Thousands of this type of camera were made by various companies from the end of the 19th century to the 1930s and used by serious amateurs.
