chris_letts
I read references on the forum to use of Capture NX2 to descreen (remove moire) using the camera and lens correction tools - 'colour moire reduction'.
This is fine on some of my nef files, but others, when edited, do not have that tool listed.
Anyone care to advise why the tool appears with some nefs and not others ?
howard_m
what does 'others, when edited' exactly mean and in what way are they edited?

Is it possible that NX doesnt have lens correction info for the lens in question if you are using different lenses?
chris_letts
'others, when edited' means I opened them for editing in NX2 - doesn't actually make a difference whether I made edits or not.
You comment on lenses suggests that the moire reduction needs to know the camera and lens details in order to do the process.
If that is the case then that answers my question as by the look of it the option is not available for nef files created from sources other than Nikon cameras (e.g. from scanned images).
howard_m
well, NEF's are proprietary to Nikon so I don't see how/which 'source' could create one (other than perhaps a Nikon scanner). If you're using some other brand scanner, then it most likely isn't creating a NEF. Probably a TIFF or raw TIFF
Wouter Willemse
If I recall well from NEFs created from others sources than Nikon cameras, nearly everything in the Develop section is either disabled or simplified - in the same way it is for JPEG and TIFF files.
Palouse
Moire correction in Capture NX2 is possible only on NEFs. not on JPGs.
al_derickson
Nikon Coolscan scanners can produce NEF files which can be edited by Capture NX2 (but not the new NX-D). The camera and lens corrections are not available however.
Al
